Leeds missed out on signing Majid Hosseini

Leeds United appeared to miss out on a World Cup defender this summer that Marcelo Bielsa had been keen on bringing to Elland Road.

According to a report by Gazete Damga, the Argentine had wanted to sign Iran international Majid Hosseini, however, he failed to land the player after he made a promise.

The defender had already given his word to Trabzonspor that he would be joining them this summer and decided to uphold his agreement.

The 22-year-old had caught the eye of Bielsa with his performances for his country at the World Cup but it appears he was too late in trying to convince him to come to England and play in the Championship.

The Argentine manager has already brought in a couple of players to bolster his Elland Road squad, however, it is thought that he still wants to add a centre-back to the mix, as he only has Pontus Jansson, Liam Cooper and Gaetano Berardi as his recognised men.

The Verdict:

Leeds’ transfer window had started off slowly this summer as they failed to get a number of bodies across the line and it appears another one can be added to that list.

There is an element of surprise that the club went for a player like Hosseini, however, his performances in the World Cup showed he could have a bright future in the game.

However, with the loan market still open for the clubs in the Championship, Bielsa will now try and bring a defender in on a temporary deal to ensure he has the options he needs at the back for a long and, hopefully, successful season.
