Leeds United will know that if they are playing Premier League football next season, their chances of signing top quality players will increase significantly – something that looks a real possibility at the moment.
As is the case with the transfer rumour mill, a number of names are always circulated, however, one man that almost made the move to Elland Road in January remains on Marcelo Bielsa’s radar and they could look to try again in the summer.
What’s the News?
Football Insider are claiming Leeds are keeping close contact with Daniel James’ camp and are stepping up their plans to try and finally land him.
Bielsa remains eager to bring the 21-year-old to Elland Road and knows that the club will need to be in the top-flight next season to have any chance of signing the Wales international as his stock has been on a constant rise recently.
The Whites had a loan-to-buy deal pulled out from underneath them on Deadline Day when Swansea City decided to abruptly cancel the deal at the last moment.
With how close the transfer came to happening in January, it is not a surprise to hear that Leeds remain interested in James and are keeping in close contact with his representatives about trying to secure a deal for him in the summer.
The Whites will have put in so much effort in the winter and will not have gone through all the work if they were not intent on bringing him to Elland Road, whilst his performances have shown exactly why the club are interested in him.
As mentioned, James has been extremely impressive in recent months for club and country, however, that will have likely increased competition for the Wales international’s signature and also the price that the club may have to pay for Swansea to sell him.
Bielsa could be the ideal mentor for the 21-year-old to improve and develop his game further and it would be expected that he would be playing first-team football on a regular basis at Elland Road, so if Leeds do secure promotion to the Premier League, it would not be too hard to see a deal happening in the summer.
Leeds fans, do you think the club should do all they can to try and sign James in the summer? Is Premier League football a must next season if you were to be successful in bringing him to Elland Road? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
