Leeds United returned to the top of the Championship earlier in the week, however, that does not appear to have stopped Marcelo Bielsa from looking at adding new players to the side in January.
The Whites have been hit with a number of injuries this season already and their squad looks to have become even thinner in places following a mass exodus of bodies at the summer.
Reports from Goal on Thursday had claimed that the Elland Road outfit were taking an interest in Alaves winger Ibai Gomez and Bielsa had felt confident of landing the 28-year-old, as his contract expires in the summer.
However, it appears that the Championship outfit could have a number of competitors for the set-piece specialist’s signature in the winter.
However, it is suggested that the three Spanish sides are keen to wait until the summer to land him on a free transfer, rather than splashing out on him.
Gomez was always going to attract plenty of interest as he continues to put in a number of impressive performances for Alaves in La Liga.
The Spanish trio could give Leeds a potential blow in trying to lure the player to the Championship, as he may want to remain in Spain, although having worked with Bielsa in the past may give Leeds an advantage.
The ball also appears to be in the Whites’ court, as they could look to make an offer to Alaves in the winter and look to snap him up before having to battle it out with contract negotiations.
