Leeds set to battle for Anwar El Ghazi

Leeds United are still thought to be looking at making additions this summer as the loan market remains open.

According to L’Equipe, the Whites are believed to be in the race to sign Anwar El Ghazi from Lille, with Aston Villa also competing for his signature.

It is understood that the Ligue One outfit need to raise money before the end of the month to meet demands that had been set by the National Directorate of Management Control and the 23-year-old could be shifted.

The winger is thought to have been transfer listed and has been valued at around €5million which has also seen interest from Stade Rennais and Saint-Etienne approach the club about a possible move.

However, Leeds are looking to jump the queue and bring the player once touted to have a bright future on a temporary deal, with an option to make his switch a permanent one at the end of the season.

The Verdict:

El Ghazi made a name for himself at Ajax when he was a youngster and huge things were expected of him.

However, he has failed to shine at Lille and Marcelo Bielsa will feel Leeds could be the perfect opportunity for the 23-year-old to kick on with things and reach his potential.

However, with the French outfit looking to raise cash for the player immediately, a loan move could be difficult for the Whites to make happen and they could miss out on the player altogether this summer.
