Leeds United have been strongly linked with a move for Ibai Gomez over the past few months as Marcelo Bielsa looks to improve his squad.
The Whites are thought to be keen on adding a winger to their side as they look to continue their efforts to win promotion to the Premier League.
The creative set-piece specialist is believed to have been high on their radar, however, according to reports in Spain, it appears that the Elland Road outfit may have missed out on the 29-year-old.
The La Liga side are thought to have agreed to a €4million deal for their former player, as his current deal at Alaves expires in the summer.
News of Gomez heading back to Bilbao will come as a huge blow for Leeds and Bielsa this winter.
The Whites had been confident that they could bring the 29-year-old to England and to see him go for a bargain fee will surely come as a disappointment to the Championship outfit.
Bielsa and Leeds will now need to ensure that they do not miss out on any other potential targets this January as they look to win promotion to the Premier League.
