Marcelo Bielsa knows exactly who he wants in his Leeds United squad. If the Argentine does not see a player with a chance of making it in his first-team, he is not shy of telling them and showing them the exit door at Elland Road.
And, it appears the manager has made a decision regarding one of the club’s academy players as their contract comes to an end in the coming weeks.
What’s the News?
According to a report by Football Insider, Leeds have told Lucas Odunston that he is free to find a new club in the summer as he has no future at Elland Road.
The defender has been on a two-year scholarship contract with the Whites, however, it does not appear as though he has done enough to earn himself a professional deal.
It might not all be bad news for the 18-year-old though, as it is believed he could earn a deal at Championship side Hull City.
Leeds have a history of managing to produce plenty of talented players, however, it seems that Odunston has failed to make the grade at Elland Road.
The 18-year-old has struggled with injuries during his time at Thorp Arch, which have certainly impacted on the chances he would have had to try and make an impression.
And, it is unlikely that the Whites will be too disappointed to see him depart either, as they have a number of solid options ahead of him, whilst it would not be a surprise to see the club look to improve their defensive ranks in the summer.
However, should Leeds be able to eventually win promotion to the Premier League, the right-back position is something that will need to be addressed as Luke Ayling certainly would not make the grade in the top-flight.
The defender has looked suspect at times and his history with injuries is something that Bielsa’s side will have to look to try and avoid.
