Laurens De Bock will finally seal his exit from Leeds United imminently, according to a report by Football Insider.
It has been widely reported that the Belgian will head to Greece and team up with Aris Thessaloniki on a season-long loan deal, with Kristof Terreur revealing that the Greek outfit will have the option to sign him for €500,000 (£458k).
The player, himself, had told fansite All About ARIS that he would be joining them soon as well. He said: “All is well. We found them with ARIS and in the next few days I will be in Thessaloniki.”
The report by Football Insider claims there had been a stumbling block regarding personal terms, however those issues have since been resolved as a breakthrough had been reached.
An exit was always on the cards though, as a report by Football Insider claimed Marcelo Bielsa had no plans for the Belgian left-back and wanted him to leave Elland Road permanently this summer, although it appears the Championship outfit have had to compromise with another temporary deal.
After an original report by SDNA had emerged at the end of July about a switch to Aris, it is a surprise to see how long it has taken to finally get a deal almost over the line. That report mentioned that the Greek outfit were closing in on an ‘imminent’ deal for the defender and just needed to progress in the Europa League – something they ultimately ended up doing.
Considering that De Bock is hardly in Bielsa’s first-team plans – the Argentine manager sent him out on loan as soon as he arrived at Elland Road – it was difficult to understand why it has taken so long, although it appears personal terms were the issue.
However, surely the player wants to be playing regular senior football and not waste his career whilst out on the fringes – as that is rather clear what would have happened if he stuck around at Leeds.
The 26-year-old played a bit-part role for both Thomas Christiansen and Paul Heckingbottom in the 2017/18 campaign as he featured in just seven Championship matches (Transfermarkt). That was followed by an underwhelming time at KV Oostende as they decided against turning his temporary stay into a permanent one (Voetbal 24) as he made just 23 appearances for the Belgian outfit.
Indeed, his first-team opportunities were always going to be further limited this season, as the likes of Barry Douglas, Ezgjan Alioski, Stuart Dallas and Leif Davis would all be thought to be ahead of him in the pecking order at Elland Road as well.
Bielsa has been active this summer in offloading men he does not see in his plans, as a number of players have all had to pack their bags after being given their marching orders (Transfermarkt) and the 26-year-old left-back looks set to head for the exit once again.
Hopefully, this latest update is true and Leeds will be able to move on from De Bock for good as it is rather clear that he is surplus to requirements at Elland Road this summer.
