Leeds United outcasts Vurnon Anita and Ouasim Bouy could still be at the club beyond the end of the transfer window, according to a report by the Yorkshire Evening Post.
The transfer window for Championship clubs signing players may have slammed shut over two weeks ago, but clubs in Europe and League One and below domestically still have the opportunity to make additions to their squad.
But, it does not appear any are prepared to make a move for either Bouy or Anita at this present moment in time as the report suggests there are no imminent moves on the cards for either of them.
If both men do not get a move away from Leeds this summer, their careers could take a rather big hit as things will not get too much better for them moving forward. As the report states, the duo are deemed surplus to requirements by Marcelo Bielsa and are not considered to be a part of the Argentine’s squad plans.
Indeed, it is hardly difficult to understand why they are not a part of the manager’s plans as it is fairly obvious their time at Elland Road has been over for a while.
Anita was sent out on loan to Willem II last summer as soon as Bielsa arrived in Yorkshire and has already informed the player he has no need for him. Football Insider reported that the Argentine wanted the former Holland international to leave the club permanently this summer. However, it appears to have been rather difficult to shift him on.
The 30-year-old, who has made just 22 appearances during his two-year spell at the club (Transfermarkt) under Thomas Christiansen and Paul Heckingbottom combined, was thought to have been offered the chance to head to Greece himself, but it turns out he rejected the opportunity to join Panathinaikos.
Bouy also appears to have been a rather sad case, as he is yet to have featured for Leeds despite having signed from Juventus back in 2017 on a free transfer (Transfermarkt).
The 26-year-old has since had two loan spells with Cultural Leonesa and PEC Zwolle – a club which the Whites are thought to have been surprised by when they offered to pay his wages in full for the duration of his season-long spell in the Eredivisie – where he made 23 appearances and scored one goal.
With both men having been sent out on loan as soon as Bielsa arrived, it is hardly a surprise that they are not required and it is rather clear that they do not have a future at the club – even if they are not shifted on before next Monday’s deadline.
It would be a disaster for Leeds and the players if they do not manage to pick up moves as both men are at the stages of their careers whereby they will want to be playing, whilst the Whites will not want to be paying for individuals that are not going to contribute in their quest for Premier League football.
