Leeds United are believed to be in talks with Arsenal about the possibility of taking Eddie Nketiah on loan this summer, according to a report by Sky Sports.
The Premier League outfit are believed to be open to letting their 20-year-old up-and-coming talent leave the Emirates Stadium temporarily.
A host of clubs are thought to be interested in the forward, with Championship rivals Bristol City also believed to be keen on signing the player for the current season.
Following the sale of Kemar Roofe to Anderlecht, Leeds should be desperate to add reinforcements to their attacking core this summer to aid their attempts of going one better than last season’s play-off heartbreak.
Nketiah could be a solid addition to Marcelo Bielsa’s side as he has shone in recent performances for Arsenal and could thrive under the Argentine boss who has shown he has the knack and passion of developing youngsters into top quality individuals (Leeds-Live).
The 20-year-old had an extremely productive pre-season for Unai Emery as he scored two goals against Fiorentina and the winner against Bayern Munich (Sky Sports) and had put himself in the reckoning to challenge the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette as his manager had originally wanted to keep him around (The Sun).
Indeed, a move to Leeds could work best for everyone as Emery has publicly stated how much he respects Bielsa and believes the manager is one of the best coaches in the world (Goal via Facebook).
“I know he is obsessed but also very professional towards his work,” he said when speaking about the ‘Spygate’ saga.
“I respect him immensely because he is (one of) the best coaches in the world. He has always worked like that in his career.”
The 20-year-old looks an exciting prospect, however he has only played in 19 senior first-team matches for Arsenal throughout his career and has scored just three times (Transfermarkt), so there is an obvious element of risk here. Roofe was the Whites’ top goalscorer last season with 15 and those goals are going to need to be replaced significantly if they are to have a chance of being at the right end of the table when the campaign comes to an end.
Taking on a youngster can always be considered a gamble, especially if there is going to be an expectation on them to find the back of the net on a regular basis. However, Nketiah could be the perfect individual for the Elland Road outfit to bring to the club this summer.
The 20-year-old has already shown he can compete against some of the best and has already pleased Emery with his ability, so working under Bielsa could help to improve him further as he would likely get the regular minutes he needs to continue his development.
With Patrick Bamford having already opened his account at the weekend against Bristol City (BBC), perhaps signing the Arsenal youngster on loan could be a smart piece of business for Leeds this summer.
