Leeds United are believed to be interested in signing Nemanja Radoja this summer, according to an exclusive report by TEAMtalk.
The Serbia international is currently a free agent after seeing his contract at Celta de Vigo come to an end and is thought to be keen on sealing a move to England.
Leeds, however, will face plenty of competition for his signature if they were to try and sign him. Premier League duo West Ham United and Brighton and Hove Albion are both thought to be interested in him as are a host of clubs from England’s top two divisions.
The 26-year-old has plenty of experience under his belt as he played 146 times for Celta over the last five seasons, with 115 of those appearances coming in La Liga action (Transfermarkt).
Indeed, he appears to have all the ability at his feet that could make him a real hit for Leeds moving forward if they were to sign him.
According to the historical data collected by WhoScored, Radoja appears to be extremely comfortable when making tackles and seems to be an individual that can break-up the play in front of him.
The defensive midfielder, who did not play for the Spanish outfit last season because of injury (per TEAMtalk), had impressive stats in previous campaigns.
In 2017/18, he may have only recorded an average of 0.7 tackles, 0.4 interceptions and 0.4 clearances, but he played almost 1,500 minutes less than he did when he, perhaps, had his best spell for the La Liga club. In 2016/17, Radoja was immense in the middle of the field as he averaged 2.3 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 1.3 clearances.
With Marcelo Bielsa appearing to adopt a 4-1-4-1 approach this season in their pursuit of Premier League football, there could be an argument that the Serbian could provide Kalvin Phillips with cover and/or competition for his place in the side.
The current Whites star may already be bossing things in front of the defence – leading the charts with 3.7 tackles per game – however, with perhaps a lack of established centre-back options available to the Elland Road outfit, the 23-year-old’s versatility could allow him to go deeper when required and bring Radoja into his current position.
Radoja could be an excellent addition to Leeds this season if they were to try and win the battle to land his signature as he has shown that he can be a real force in front of the defence and make life difficult for opposing attackers.
The 26-year-old is still at a relatively young age and could offer Bielsa’s side plenty in their quest for Premier League football, although it would not be a surprise if there were doubts about how well he would play after missing the last campaign through injury.
With top-flight clubs also rumoured to be interested, it could be difficult to land Radoja, but he certainly looks to be a player worth taking a gamble on.
