The Spanish media outlet have claimed a source close to the club have told them that the Whites are currently working on a deal that would see the Northern Ireland international leave the Elland Road club and join Burnley in the Premier League.
It is also stated that Leeds want to bring in a ‘young goalkeeper’ to replace the 22-year-old if they are successful in moving him on.
As Sport Witness state, Victor Orta is known to have spoken to ABC Sevilla on a number of occasions, so it could be viable that there is some truth to the report despite it coming from the Spanish media.
Peacock-Farrell appeared to fall out of favour under Marcelo Bielsa at one stage of the season as it was revealed he was on the verge of being dropped from his starting position. However, he was subsequently handed a slice of good fortune when Jamal Blackman suffered a season-ending injury as it was about to happen (Leeds Live).
The Northern Ireland international did not necessarily have a bad campaign, as he managed to make 29 appearances across all competitions, keeping ten clean sheets and conceding 32 goals (Transfermarkt) and earned his debut for the national team after some impressive early performances (BBC Sport).
However, things started to fall by the wayside in January, especially following the arrival of Kiko Casilla from Real Madrid as he became a mainstay in the team. Peacock-Farrell had to settle for a role as the Spaniard’s deputy throughout the final five months of the campaign and had to watch on from the substitutes bench waiting for his turn once again.
Danny Mills recently suggested the 22-year-old should look to move away from Elland Road temporarily to get that first-team experience once again and continue to play football and develop, but it would seem Leeds have different ideas moving forward.
Peacock-Farrell’s opportunities in the first-team at Leeds may have dwindled following the arrival of Casilla. However, it does appear rather strange to hear that the club are looking to offload the young goalkeeper already.
He is still only 22-years-old and a fully-fledged international so finding a ‘younger ‘keeper’ that has all those attributes and experience already could be something Bielsa and the Whites find rather difficult to accomplish this summer.
Also, Casilla is far from the assured shot-stopper the club need as they look for promotion to the Premier League, as he has made costly errors in his short-stint and hardly looks the safe pair of hands Leeds currently need.
