Martin O’Neill has recently been installed as the new Nottingham Forest manager and it seems he is already plotting a potential transfer.
The Stoke City winger is well-known by O’Neil as he had a prominent role in the Republic of Ireland squad under the manager.
It is also claimed the 29-year-old would ‘jump’ at the chance to join his former international boss should he have the opportunity to do so.
McClean featured regularly for Gary Rowett at Stoke, having made 26 appearances across all competitions for the Championship side.
However, he has since found game-time limited under new boss Nathan Jones and has been on the bench for the previous two games, where he made late substitute appearances.
McClean is clearly a man that O’Neill knows well and it could be a great addition for Nottingham Forest this winter.
The winger has played some of his best football whilst with the national team and could replicate those performances at the City Ground.
However, it remains to be seen if whether Jones will be willing to sanction a move for the Ireland international, or whether he will want to keep him at Stoke beyond January.
