Lazaar, who signed for Newcastle United from Palermo for £2m in 2016, has been on loan at various clubs after flopping in his first season at St. James’ Park.
Over the past two seasons, the defender has returned to Italy with Benevento and spent time on loan at Sheffield Wednesday – making a handful of appearances for each club.
Now, Lazaar finds himself back in Serie B – where he originally gained promotion with Palermo and attracted Newcastle’s interest – with Cosenza.
The 27-year-old has made two appearances for the Italian club so far this campaign, with the Magpies telling Cosenza they can make the move permanent at the end of his loan deal – in a bid to sell the full-back.
Lazaar originally attracted interest from Premier League suitors after being one of the standout performers in a Palermo team which achieved promotion to Serie A back in 2014 – going on to make 76 appearances in the Italian top-flight for the Rosanero.
After which, Newcastle won the race for the Moroccan’s signature, paying £2m for the privilege.
The rest, as they say, is history – with Lazaar flopping in his first season with the club and then going out on loan every season thereafter in order to keep down Newcastle’s wage bill.
So perhaps his time at the club is over, and it is in the best interests of all concerned that Lazaar is moved on.
