The Newcastle United fans who are gathered around the jukebox in The Transfer Tavern this evening are discussing reports that their manager is unfazed by potential player exits this summer.
Reports in The Chronicle suggest that Rafa Benitez is not at all concerned by any of the speculation linking players with a move away from the club this summer.
In fact Benitez has been told by the likes of Aleksandar Mitrovic, Vurnon Anita, Ayoze Perez, Karl Darlow and Jamaal Lascelles that they want to remain at the club for next season’s challenge of getting the club back into the Premier League at the first attempt.
There is no doubt that some players will leave St James Park this summer, but Rafael Benitez will have a clear view on who he wants to bring into the club should players leave this summer. Speaking about potential exits, Benitez said:
“I have been asked about players wanting to leave. But I have had more players telling me they want to stay. That is positive. So we will deal with them and the main thing is we need players with passion, commitment and quality to make a difference in the Championship.”
Our landlord in The Tavern believes it will be a massive statement of intent to the rest of the Championship if Newcastle manage to keep hold of the likes of Andros Townsend and Jamal Lascelles this summer.
