It could have been one of the most sensational coups of all time according to Marca, and the Football Transfer Tavern was on the edge of its seat to see if Paris Saint Germain would really land Jose Mourinho and Cristiano Ronaldo.
It had of course been claimed that the club would go after the two stars of Real Madrid this summer, replying ‘of course’ when asked if they would be interested in the duo. PSG of course now have more money than ever seemed possible and after acquiring Thiago Silva and Zlatan Ibrahimovic deals to steal away the world’s best talents seem that much more attainable.
Mourinho and Ronaldo have been subject to rumours all season about their future at the club, with Mourinho seeing his side slip 16 behind in the league while falling out with club legend Iker Casillas. Ronaldo declared his unhappiness at the club earlier in the campaign and it remains to be seen if either will attend the Ballon d’Or ceremony this week.
PSG however have now at least moved to quell the rumours, claiming that there is no such ‘double deal’ for the Portuguese player and manager. In a statement that may not entirely reassure fans of Mourinho and indeed Ronaldo, PSG stated: “Mourinho said that he would leave Madrid after winning the Champions League. We currently have Ancelotti and I trust him completely.”
With regards to Ronaldo, the PSG president also claimed: “If I want to bring Cristiano to Paris, I’ll call the club first before making any statement”. Whilst this may be considered a rather arrogant denial it is not exactly a solid one and rumours are set to run and run.
