Official: Good news for Leeds United fans after Newport nightmare

Leeds United began the season in electric fashion, before a poor run of form halted the progress of boss Thomas Christiansen’s side rise up the table.

However a wonderful Christmas period put the club back on course for promotion, with the Whites firmly in contention for a playoff spot entering the second half of the campaign. Fans of the West Yorkshire side are a popular, optimistic bunch here in The Transfer Tavern, with many holding high hopes for their side in the transfer window this month. New faces are expected to be brought in, and following a summer of exciting arrivals, fans are keen to see what Christiansen and director of football Victor Orta will pull off this month.

The club today got the ball rolling, by announcing the long-awaited arrival of Japanese international Yosuke Ideguchi on their official website. The 21-year-old completed his medical at Elland Road ahead of his move from Gamba Osaka in his homeland for an undisclosed fee, becoming the first Japanese player to ever play for the club.

Ideguchi penned terms on a four-and-a-half year deal, but has joined Spanish second tier side Cultural Leonesa on-loan until the end of the season to comply with work permit regulations.

Landlord’s Verdict: Set to star at the World Cup this summer with the Japanese national side, Leeds have secured a future star of European football by bringing the player to the club. Ideguchi is held in extremely high regard in the inner circles of Asian football, and the Whites must be congratulated in their vision in bringing such a promising talent to West Yorkshire.

Ideguchi will be monitored closely during his spell in Spain, and is expected to link up with the Leeds first-team squad in the summer, whether it be as a Championship or Premier League player. The club appear to be on their way up under the guidance of chairman Andrea Radrizzani and the leadership of Christiansen, with the pair overhauling all aspects of the club since their respective arrivals.
