Phil Hay: Steven Caulker not a target for Leeds

Leeds United will continue to look to add players to their squad this summer as the transfer deadline fast approaches in England.

Marcelo Bielsa is thought to be keen on adding another addition to the side as he looks to bolster the depth to his team, however, it appears one man will not be joining the Elland Road outfit.

According to Phil Hay, Leeds will not be signing Steven Caulker this summer, with the Yorkshire Evening Post journalist suggesting he has been told that a move will not happen.

The Whites are thought to be in the market for a new centre-back as they only have Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper as their recognised players, however, the former Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur defender is not thought to be on their radar.

The 26-year-old had been linked by The Daily Mirror with a move to Elland Road on Wednesday and would have been available for a fee in the region of £1.5million, however, a move now appears unlikely.

The Verdict:

Caulker would have been considered a welcomed signing at Leeds this summer as Bielsa would need reinforcements at the centre-back position.

With just Jansson and Cooper as his recognised players, the position appears to look thin on the ground and will not help their cause with trying to get promotion to the Premier League.

Leeds may decide to look to the loan market, as the deadline is extended until the end of August, however, if they did want a permanent acquisition, they will need to act extremely quickly.
