Here in the Football Transfer Tavern nothing distresses us as much as when a young star who has so much promise fails to deliver throughout their career and Ricardo Quaresma is one of those players. As Sky Sports reports, he has terminated his contract with Besiktas and is now without a club.
Although there was six months left on the Portuguese international’s contract in Istanbul, both club and player agreed to end the arrangement after the 29-year-old former Porto and Inter man failed to settle in Turkey following his move there in 2010.
Of course, once upon a time Quaresma had caught the eye of a host of clubs around Europe including Manchester United but never really sparked and fulfilled the promise he showed so early in his career back in his native Portugal in the same Sporting Lisbon side as a certain Cristiano Ronaldo, but after notably poor spells at Barcelona amongst others, the player has been as flat as a beer goes when a good match is on.
The tricky winger will now be on the lookout for a new club and has been linked with Liverpool, yet how much of a chance Brendan Rodgers would be willing to take on such a player is debatable.
