Sheffield Wednesday will need to make changes to their squad in the summer if they are to challenge for promotion next season. Play-off football looks unlikely at the moment, although it is not out of the question just yet following the remarkable turnaround at the club since Steve Bruce has been in charge.
The Owls manager is expected to make a number of personnel decisions over the course of the summer and it appears that one man that has been linked with a move to Hillsborough in recent times may have given the club a boost, should they look to sign him.
What’s the News?
Speaking in an interview with O Jogo, Quentin Beunardeau was asked about the rumours linking him with a move to Sheffield Wednesday and Championship rivals Aston Villa.
He replied: “My agent did not tell me anything. I’m focused on making a great championship finish so that the Birds stay in the I League. I have two more years of contract, I’m very happy, but football can change quickly.”
Although his answer was what would be considered a normal one, the fact that he refused to rule the possibility of a move away from CD Aves is rather interesting and could be good news for Sheffield Wednesday, should Bruce target him in the summer.
Beunardeau could be an excellent addition to the squad as he would certainly compete with the likes of Cameron Dawson and Keiren Westwood, should the latter be offered a new deal to remain with the Owls.
The 25-year-old has been in impressive form for Aves this season and has conceded just once in his last five matches as they battle bravely against relegation from the Primeira Liga.
A former France Under-20 international, Beunardeau still has plenty of time on his side and could have a lot to give, which is not something you can say about Westwood as the Irishman is at the wrong end of his career, whilst his experience in Portugal’s top-flight could be welcomed at Hillsborough if they do not win promotion this season themselves.
Sheffield Wednesday fans, do you think Beunardeau would be a good acquisition for the club? Would he help to improve the goalkeeping department and provide it with some excellent competition? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
