Report: Heavily-linked target no longer of interest to Leeds this summer

Leeds United fans in the Transfer Tavern will be looking ahead to the way Marcelo Bielsa gets his team playing during the upcoming Championship season.

The locals are desperate for this year to be the campaign that finally sees them get back into the Premier League, following a number of disappointing finishes in the second-tier.

Bielsa will be a manager that could get the best out of everyone, however, it is still thought that he will want to bring in a few faces to help improve and strengthen the squad in order to reach the local’s expectations.

According to a report in the Yorkshire Evening Times, one man that is not on his wishlist this summer is Jerry Mbakogu. The Whites have allegedly informed Capri that they will not be exercising their option to sign him.

The Nigerian striker has been linked with a move ever since the January transfer window and apparently reached an agreement with the Serie B outfit to sign him in the summer for around £3million.

However, their interest appeared to be heading elsewhere once Bielsa was appointed as the new manager, with the Argentine looking at the likes of Matej Vydra and Abel Hernandez instead.

Landlord’s Verdict

The Leeds fans in the Tavern will not have been surprised that the club have decided against making a move for Mbakogu this summer, with reports stating for a while that there was some uncertainty surrounding a deal.

However, should the club be unable to lure a striker to Elland Road this summer, they will be disappointed that they had the opportunity to sign one and wasted it.
