Report: Leeds could abandon interest in target as they suffer setback

Leeds United fans in the Transfer Tavern will be expecting to see a couple of additions to arrive at Elland Road following the arrival of Marcelo Bielsa.

The experienced manager was officially appointed as the Whites new boss last week and it is thought that he is keen to bring in a new couple of faces to ensure his side are able to compete in the Championship.

One area of the field that he has concerns with is in the goalkeeper department and with the departure of Felix Wiedwald and Andy Lonergan being deemed surplus to requirements, Bielsa is keen on finding a reliable shot-stopper.

David Stockdale was thought to be high on that list, however, if reports being made by the Yorkshire Evening Post are anything to be believed, the Birmingham City man may not be heading to Elland Road after all.

It is understood that Leeds are preparing to abandon their efforts to sign him as they would be unable to bring the 32-year-old to Yorkshire on a season-long loan with a view to a permanent deal, as the Blues are not prepared to accept.

Landlord’s Verdict

The Leeds fans will have been hoping they could finally get a deal done to bring Stockdale in, however, Birmingham’s decision not to accept their initial offer will have caused the locals in the Tavern some concern.

Stockdale is a proven goalkeeper at the Championship level and the fans will be becoming frustrated with how things are developing as it appears they are no closer to bringing him to Elland Road.
