Leeds United will be busy looking for a new manager this summer and fans in the Transfer Tavern will hope it does not take too long for their club to make an announcement regarding Paul Heckingbottom’s successor.
The Whites dismissed Heckingbottom last week and have been on the lookout for their 11th new manager in the space of five years, with Marcelo Bielsa being a possible target, however, reports are starting to claim they could be prepared to look closer to home.
The Telegraph are reporting that Steve Bruce is on Leeds’ radar as they look to capitalise on the uncertainty at Aston Villa. The current Villa boss remains in the dark about his future at the club following his failed effort to win promotion back to the Premier League.
Leeds have attempted to use the uncertainty over his current situation to their advantage by making a formal approach to Bruce about the possibility of taking the vacant managerial position at Elland Road.
The decision to go after Bruce would make perfect sense for Leeds as there is no other manager in the Championship that has tasted promotion more times than the the 57-year-old, and the Whites are desperate to make their return to the Premier League.
Although there would be some uncertainty about how long Bruce would remain in the job at Elland Road, he would certainly be relieved to get away from the financial unrest at Villa with a move to a club where he should expect to receive financial backing in the transfer market.
