Report suggests Leeds face battle to land international midfielder

Leeds United supporters in the Transfer Tavern have been somewhat quieter in recent weeks following their side’s dip in form.

Thomas Christiansen’s men went top of the Championship back on September 12 after registering a fifth win in seven matches in victory over Birmingham City, but since then they have only managed three points from a possible 12.

And all three of their losses have come away from Elland Road, with the Yorkshire giants going down at Millwall, Cardiff City, and Sheffield Wednesday to fall to fifth in the table.

And there may be more disappointing news to come for our resident Leeds fans, as recent reports from Japanese outlet Sanspo outlines some intriguing information regarding the chase for Gamba Osaka midfielder Yosuke Ideguchi.

The 21-year-old came up through the ranks at the Japanese outfit and has since gone on to make 90 senior appearances for the club, in which time he has scored nine goals and laid on ten assists.

And four goals and six assists of which have come this year to help Gamba Osaka to ninth place in the J1 League, and it’s form which has reportedly attracted the interest of Leeds in recent months.

However, recent reports suggest that the Championship side will face a battle to land the Japan international, as Belgian top tier club Sint-Truiden, currently fifth in the division, are also thought to be keeping tabs on Ideguchi.

Thus, you sense that Leeds will have to be in promotion contention come January in a bid to lure the 21-year-old to Elland Road.

Landlord’s verdict: Gamba Osaka midfielder Yosuke Ideguchi has come on leaps and bounds this year, so much so that he earned his first senior cap for Japan back in June, and has added three further caps since then.

And his stock has been rising and catching the eye of some clubs in Europe, notably Leeds United, yet Belgian outfit Sint-Truiden, who have been funded by Japanese company DMM during the summer, have also joined the race.

Thus, Leeds will have a battle on their hands convincing the 21-year-old to move to Elland Road, a task that would surely be a lot easier if Thomas Christiansen’s men were in promotion contention come the New Year.
