Leeds United could certainly do with a playmaker in their side for the final stage of the Championship season as Marcelo Bielsa’s side look short of creativity at times.
Samu Saiz was one man that offered plenty last season for the Whites, however, he fell way short of form in the early stages of this campaign and struggled under the guidance of the Argentine.
The club allowed him to make a return to Spain when he joined Getafe on a loan deal in the winter with a view to joining them on a permanent deal after citing personal problems, however, things do not look to have got any better for him on the pitch.
What’s the news?
According to a report by Marca, it is understood Getafe are not prepared to take up the option of signing him permanently in the summer.
The 28-year-old has struggled to make an impact with the La Liga outfit making just six appearances, which has included two starts. He has not been used by the Madrid-based outfit in their last three consecutive matches either.
However, despite the disappointing time in his homeland, it appears he is keen to stay in the country and does not want to make a return to Leeds, who are said to be counting on him for next season.
Saiz lit up Elland Road during his first season with Leeds, scoring five goals and providing eight assists in his 34 Championship games, however, he fell a little short of form at the beginning of the current campaign.
The playmaker is an excellent player on his day, however, it appears that he was not that happy in England and it seems that he wants to remain in Spain and continue his football there, although a move to Getafe is not likely.
Leeds are understood to want him back and it is hard to argue against that, but they might be better off looking for someone else to bring to Elland Road in the summer and cutting ties with the Spaniard.
With the emergence of Jack Clarke this season, Saiz has not been exactly missed but there will be a disappointment that he is rarely being used by Getafe when he could have been used in a key role to helping the club win promotion to the Premier League.
