Sheffield Wednesday interested in Quentin Beunardeau

The summer will most definitely be the perfect time for Steve Bruce to make a number of necessary changes at Sheffield Wednesday. With a rather large squad already, the Owls could do with offloading plenty of players, especially with their well-documented concerns regarding Financial Fair Play regulations.

However, with an almost guaranteed mass exodus to happen, Bruce could also look to make a number of additions in the summer to strengthen certain areas of his team and turn them into real promotion contenders – or maybe even potentially trying to survive the drop from the Premier League with the way things are going at the moment.

What’s the News?

According to Record in Portugal, Sheffield Wednesday have been linked with a move for Quentin Beunardeau.

The Frenchman, who has represented his country at youth levels and the Under-20s, is currently playing for CD Aves and has made some impressive contributions for the struggling Primeira Liga outfit.

Five clean sheets in his 19 appearances so far after establishing himself as their number one, it is suggested a move to the Owls in the summer could be on the cards for Beunardeau.

The Verdict:

With Keiran Westwood’s contract set to expire in the summer and Cameron Dawson having failed to win back his place following the arrival of Bruce, bringing a new goalkeeper to Hillsborough would not necessarily be a bad thing.

Beunardeau could be one that helps to strengthen the position and would also be able to bring some experience to the side, despite currently playing for a side stuck in a relegation battle in Portugal.

Still only 25-years-old, the Frenchman still has plenty of time on his side and could have a lot to give, which is not something you can say about Westwood as the Irishman is at the wrong end of his career.

However, with the difficulty of Championship (or even Premier League) football, it could be a massive risk for Sheffield Wednesday to take and maybe one that could backfire on them, especially given some of the signings the club have made in the past.

But, with Bruce’s knowledge and the scouting network behind him, it could be a gamble worth taking as the manager has come up trumps with some of his additions in the past.

Sheffield Wednesday fans, do you think the club should look to sign Beunardeau in the summer? Or would you hand Westwood a new deal and keep him as your number one? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
