Kieren Westwood’s time at Sheffield Wednesday has been rather difficult under the management of Jos Luhukay.
The 34-year-old has been deemed surplus to requirements at Hillsborough under the Dutchman, despite being voted as one of their best players on a couple of occasions by their fans.
With their recent run of results having not been great, many have called for Westwood to make a return to the senior side, however, it appears as though he could be about to join a Championship rival for nothing in January.
Westwood made his first appearance on Monday for the developmental side, playing 45 minutes in their 2-2 draw with Crewe Alexandra, which led to many questioning why he was being used.
Fans will be angry with the fact that Westwood will be allowed to leave for nothing in January and to a Yorkshire rival, should reports turn out to be correct.
However, with Sheffield Wednesday’s current financial situation and precarious position, it could be a good idea for the club to offload him as soon as possible.
Westwood was unlikely ever to break into Luhukay’s plans for the first-team, so as much as the Owls faithful may not like it, it makes sense for a switch to happen.
