Going into the international break, Leeds were held to a 0-0 draw by fellow promotion contenders, Middlesbrough in a tough and physical game.
The draw was Leeds’ second of the season in the Championship, their first being a 2-2 against Swansea City. Despite those two draws, Leeds sit joint top of the league and in general, have been superb.
Under Marcelo Bielsa, Leeds have been playing at a much more demanding tempo. The Argentinian manager likes to work his players in training and so far, they have seen the benefits with the likes of Kalvin Phillips, Samu Saiz and Kemar Roofe all improving massively.
However, with that intense style of play also comes the fear that the players will eventually burn out. Against Middlesbrough, we saw the first signs of that as Pablo Hernandez wasn’t used, while Gaetano Berardi picked up an injury during the game.
Speaking on the Inside Elland Road podcats via Inside Futbol, Phil Hay revealed that both players look like they could be fit for the club’s game against Millwall.
Both players have been crucial in Leeds superb start to the season. Berardi has been solid at the back in tandem with Liam Cooper and was a major reason why Bielsa didn’t dip into the transfer market for another central defender.
Hernandez likewise has been outstanding scoring three goals to go with two assists in the league.
Ahead of a tough tie away to Millwall, having both players back is a huge plus for Leeds and are a welcome boost to their Premier League ambitions.
Leeds fans, what do you think?
