Leeds United: Phil Hay’s tweet has fans discussing football’s return

The Athletic’s Leeds writer Phil Hay has sparked a response from some fans of the Whites after tweeting that the English Football League have pushed back a return to training for clubs.
With the coronavirus pandemic causing football fans to debate how the 2019/20 season will return, news from the EFL on Wednesday has cast further doubt. Various claims have been made about a possible restart for the Championship, with some reports claiming the current campaign could be rendered null and void or settled by a points-per-game system.
Leeds sit top of the league table and on the verge of sealing an automatic promotion to the Premier League, having lost in the play-off semi-final to Derby County last season.
An EFL statement said that training would not return until May 25 at the earliest, having been originally set at May 16. Various leagues across Europe are closing in on a return to action, with the German Bundesliga restarting this coming weekend.
Reacting to a tweet from Hay, who shared news of the EFL’s decision on training, these Leeds fans gave their thoughts…
The EFL has delayed the date for clubs to return to training until May 25 at the earliest. Was originally set for May 16. EFL board met today and Championship clubs also held discussions. #lufc

Definitely not playing again then. So another pre-season and 9 games in 6;weeks is not happening

That’s a bit tight now, isn’t it? 4-5 weeks preseason type prep, with roughly the same amount of time to finish the fixture list? Doable I suppose, but can’t afford any more delays.

With a 3 week mini preseason. That just leaves 6 weeks to finish the season before the 31st July D-Day

I can’t see why they can’t train considering Spanish clubs have started all ready & German clubs back training for about 3wks now.

Absolute disgrace the premier league or EFL have not said out what their plans are if season is not completed. Keeping everyone in the dark. Will it be null and void or PPG. Come out and say it. Think we gonna get done over.

Can’t see it restarting. Most EFL clubs will lose serious money hosting games behind closed doors especially if they have to extend players contracts. PPG beckons I reckon

PL cancelled at the big meeting on the 18th then and the Championship after that at a guess 😂😂 Nothing is going to be straight forward with certain players and clubs against it.
