‘Next season could be exciting’ – Loads of Southampton fans are feeling positive once again

Southampton have come to life in this summer’s transfer window after signing Stuart Armstrong from SPL champions Celtic.

The 26-year-old joins the club for £7m, reports the BBC, and Saints fans will be hoping Armstrong is the first of a few new additions made in the coming weeks after a disappointing season.

Armstrong, who is valued at £2m by Transfermarkt, comes in to give manager Mark Hughes options in midfield alongside the likes of Mario Lemina, Oriol Romeu, James Ward-Prowse, Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and Steven Davis.

Having added Armstrong to an already good crop of midfielders, Hughes must now turn his attention to addressing the club’s attack. The futures of Dusan Tadic and Sofiane Boufal remain uncertain, according to Sky Sports and le10sport respectively, while up front Charlie Austin, Manolo Gabbiadini and Shane Long – for different reasons – are not very reliable options.

If Southampton are to avoid another relegation scrap, then Hughes has to get the Saints’ attack firing again. However, in midfield, the team looks healthy and the acquisition of Armstrong will only add to that.

The St. Mary’s outfit also look in decent shape at the back. Despite finding themselves in relegation trouble in the recently concluded Premier League campaign, the likes of Everton, Leicester City, Watford and West Ham all conceded more goals than Hughes’ men.
