Sunderland: Fans are keen to see Will Grigg back in action

In December, Phil Parkinson made the bold decision to cut two key players out of his Sunderland team in Aiden McGeady and Will Grigg, since which the Wearsiders have lost just one match.
The Black Cats’ boss has mostly kept an unchanged side in the two months since and found a winning formula in the form of his 3-4-3 formation, with the front three all proving their worth. Lynden Gooch, Chris Maguire and Charlie Wyke have all produced match-winning moments over the last 15 games, with the aforementioned duo not featuring at all. McGeady has since departed the club but Grigg remains and is now fighting for a place in Parkinson’s side through his performances for the reserves, scoring against Carlisle this week.
Many supporters have reacted to that goal by suggesting the striker deserves an opportunity to redeem himself, particularly as Wyke has faltered of late, with just two goals in nine games. Some believe Grigg offers something different and might have been able to find the net against Fleetwood, and therefore they are keen for him to be given more game-time over the remaining league matches.
Here is some of the discussion that is taking place about the Northern Irishman, with a lot of faith being shown in his ability despite a return of just eight goals in 48 Sunderland games as one fan feels he ‘could make a valuable contribution’ between now and May:
I’d love to see Grigg come into the side and show us what he can do

Grigg fighting his way back into the team and scoring the goals to get us up will be the biggest comeback since..well Parkinson. One can hope.

Would like to see Grigg in the squad again. Wyke just isn’t cutting it and I think parky’s system would suit him

Could be the difference having a hungry fit team. How Grigg cannot get in ahead of Wyke is embarrassing enough

I want Grigg to get a chance in this new system 🤷♂️ https://t.co/uxQWegVCvK

Irrespective of what people’s opinion of Grigg is, he’s a different player to Whike, Lafferty etc. There has to be a place for him based on his previous record. Don’t write the lad off, he could make a valuable contribution before the end of the season. https://t.co/C2VEEWZXxv

So Sunderland fans does Grigg deserve the chance to redeem himself or do you trust Parkinson’s continued use of Wyke and Kyle Lafferty? Share your thoughts below…
