£10m Bid On The Table For Tottenham Striker

Spartak Moscow are set to offer former striker Roman Pavlyuchenko an escape route from his Tottenham nightmare with a summer bid of £10m for the rangy Russian forward.

Pavlyuchenko, 29, has found his time on the pitch limited since his arrival at Spurs in 2008, and he has openly expressed his displeasure at the situation, saying to Sports Express of Russia,

“I don’t understand why [Harry] Redknapp keeps me on the bench. He says nothing about it. I don’t want to be among the subs after a successful game, where I scored a goal. Frankly, I’m tired of waiting for another chance.”

After falling behind Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch in Harry Redknapp’s first team, despite scoring more goals than both players this season, his battle to play at Tottenham has not been helped by the recent addition of Rafael Van der Vaart and Spurs’ subsequent change in formation to 4-5-1. The inconsistency of his selection was another gripe,

“I had a groin injury but I was fully prepared for the last two games against Blackburn and Bolton. I didn’t even get a chance in the FA Cup game at Fulham when we were 4-0 down.

At the same time Redknapp says in interviews he needs me and is not going to sell me. My agent had a meeting with chairman Daniel Levy but it won’t change anything.”

A fantastic goal-scoring record in Russia, his fractious relationship with Harry Redknapp, and a frustrating time on the bench suggest that a return to the club where he made his name would surely appeal to the unsettled hitman.
