As Owen Hargreaves walks away from Old Trafford on a free transfer this summer, he will surely look back on his frustrating four year stint and ponder what might have been?
The Daily Mail has reported that MLS side FC Toronto are looking to throw the free agent a life line and restart his career with a new challenge. At the age of 30, Hargreaves would surely be disappointed to return to his country of birth so early on that would see him throw the towel in playing at the top level after 11 years.
Manchester United paid £17m for the middle-man in 2007 from German giants Bayern Munich, where he had spent a decade starting at youth level. Despite a promising first season at the Theatre of dreams a plague of injuries has over-shadowed a career that promised so much, for both club and country.
Vancouver Whitecaps are also believed to be interested in landing the former England International.
You have to feel a return to his native Canada to play in the MLS would only confirm rumours of early retirement, because let’s be honest if he had any belief he could still cut it at the top level he would seek European football, and Sir Alex Ferguson wouldn’t of let him walk.
