Newcastle United fans inside the Football Transfer Tavern seem to have an air of doom and gloom about them today.
Wednesday night’s comprehensive 3-0 defeat to Swansea City has left the Toon Army feeling a bit flat, especially after a run of four straight Premier League wins.
Nervous talk of a possible push for European places was up for discussion last week, but the manner in which Newcastle failed to show up at the Liberty Stadium now has supporters confused as to just where their team will end up this season.
The general feeling surrounding Newcastle this season, is that on their day they are capable of beating anyone. But they remain inconsistent, and are just as likely to produce a performance the likes of which we saw at Swansea, or in that first half at Goodison Park in late September.
A lot seems to revolve around influential midfielder Yohan Cabaye, with the Frenchman responsible for controlling the tempo of the play in the middle of the park and dictating the play.
After his summer flirtation with Arsenal, the Frenchman has been outstanding for the best part this season. However fear remains amongst Magpies supporters he is in line for a move away, possibly as early as January.
The likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco have all found themselves linked with a player who is vital to the way in which Newcastle play.
Should the worst come to the worst, and Cabaye does indeed move on in January, we have compiled a list of five possible replacements for the French playmaker.
Click on St. James’ Park to reveal the 5 ideal Newcastle United ‘transfer replacements’ for Yohan Cabaye.
