A number of top English Premier League clubs are tracking Celtic defender Emilio Izaguirre.
The highly rated Honduran left back has had a fantastic start to life in Scotland and it is no surprise to see his name being linked with big clubs down south like Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool.
Izaguirre scooped up four player of the year awards in his debut season at Celtic and has cemented the left back spot at Parkhead as his own with a number of impressive performances this term. The player who cost £600,000 from Honduran side Montagua last summer is now rated at around £6 Million and is held in high regard with the Parkhead management team who are determined to keep him for the title challenge against rivals Rangers next season.
Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish has been tracking Izaguirre for a while and would love to make the defender his first summer signing and start the rebuilding process of his poor back line.
Now with contract rebel at Arsenal Gael Clichy the subject of a transfer bid from Inter Milan Arsene Wenger looks set to throw his hat into the mix for Izaguirre seeing him as being an adequate replacement for Clichy. Celtic though have expressed no desire to sell him and although the player himself has stated ” he is flattered by Liverpool’s interest but as far as he’s concerned, he’s happy to remain at the club”.
Celtic boss Neil Lennon yesterday shot down claims of his players departure for the Premiership saying ” he wants to stay. He is on a three year contract so I don’t even no why we’re having this discussion all the speculation is coming from you lot “.
But with the Liverpool and Arsenal bosses both expressing the need to strengthen their defence and spend in the transfer window will Celtic be able to hold on to their talented left back if a big money offer comes in ?
