According to the Daily Mail, Manuel Pellegrini has called for Martin Demichelis to be given an extension to his contract as he remains as key player for the squad, whether that be in the starting line up or as cover.
This has left many punters in the Tavern bewildered as they have given him an outrageous amount of stick in the past, but his current deal expires in the summer and he seems to have locked down a place in Manchester City’s defence.
It is currently between the 33-year-old and Eliaquim Mangala to pair up with Vincent Kompany , the new boy was thrown into the fire and had a great game against Chelsea but then had a very poor performance against Hull.
This leaves Pellegrini with a selection headache, because Mangala is undoubtedly seen as the future choice, but Demichelis continues to be putting in fine displays this season.
And Mangala was taken out of the line up after the Hull game but the Sky Blues boss insists that he didn’t drop him due to his performance.
Pellegrini said: “We bought Mangala for an important amount of money because we thought that we needed a centre back, but I’m very happy with the performance of Martin and Vincent Kompany also.”
