The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been tearing into Brendan Rodgers as Iago Aspas has been starring for Spain in the World Cup. Rodgers signed Aspas in 2013 but the Spaniard failed to impress and he was sold just two years later.
This is absolute scenes. Can’t believe how much better Aspas is than we ever knew.

For Celta Vigo last season, Aspas found the net 22 times in 34 appearances at the age of 30 and finishing fourth in the race for the Pichichi to only Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez. Despite this, five years ago he spent two years at Anfield and failed to leave any kind of impression on the fans, picking up more bookings than he scored goals whilst plying his trade on Merseyside.
Those days are now well behind Aspas and he’s keen to show what he’s really capable of. Last night for Spain he scored a late, late equaliser against Morocco for his Spain to ensure La Roja would be facing Russia in their first knockout match as opposed to facing much stiffer opposition in Uruguay. His goal for Spain has just hit home for our local Kopites though, who have been questioning why the versatile forward couldn’t do it for Liverpool.

Brendon Rodgers had know idea what to do with him

Rodgers rated him but he couldn't fit him in when Suarez/Sturridge and Sterling were on fire.

A good manager would have got the most out of him. Instead Rodgers ruined his time in England

Again another player never given a fair cracking at the club and fans all over him from day one typical from a lot of armchair fans

Hindsight is a wonderful thing for our local Liverpool fans who wouldn’t have predicted Aspas would turn out the way he has from his time under Rodgers at Anfield.
