Arsenal could be lining up talented Bellerin replacement incase the Spaniard leaves in January – report

There is hope amongst the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern that the January transfer window will be about incomings, rather than outgoings. The Gunners desperately need to improve their side as they look to force their way into the top four, and so a few big name additions could be just what they need.

However, it seems as though there is at least a chance of there being a mix of incomings and outgoings in January, with a recent story emerging via the Transfer Market Web regarding Hector Bellerin. According to Transfer Market Web, Bellerin ‘might’ be leaving in January amidst a host of interested clubs, and so Arsenal have already moved to line up a potential replacement.  Silvan Widmer of Udinese is the player that they are said to have selected, and whilst a move is unlikely to be made if Bellerin stays, it appears as though Arsenal are working on the assumption that that isn’t guaranteed.

Able to play at both right-back and right-midfield, Widmer is more comfortable at the former, and he has cemented his place in Udinese’s squad this season. He has made 5 starts thus far, providing consistent, defensive performances all the while. At 24-years-old, he’s just entering the prime of his career, and it seems as though Arsenal would be open to bringing him in.

More of a defensive player, he’s a great tackler and he’s strong on the ball, whilst he’s also comfortable going forward and providing an offensive threat.

Arsenal are clearly dealing in hypotheticals right now, but the fans in the Transfer Tavern are delighted that their side are planning in the event of a departure.

Landlord’s Verdict

It remains to be seen whether Silvan Widmer will be on the level of Bellerin, but he’s clearly at a talented player.

That being said, losing Bellerin would be a huge blow, and so everything must be done to avoid that scenario. He’s one of the Premier League’s best.
