According to The Daily Mail, Arsene Wenger could look to beef up his midfield with the return of exiled star Denilson, currently on loan at Brazilian club Sao Paulo.
Denilson may be ending his ‘career’ at Sao Paulo early as he has far from endeared himself with the fans after 2 red cards in 3 appearances. The fans have been after coach Batista’s head and Denilson has jumped to his defence – further ruining his reputation.
Adilson Batista may be under pressure never to play Denilson again, but Arsene Wenger is under a similar sort of pressure. Arsenal may look slightly short on experienced bodies in the centre of the park, but Arsenal fans will be sighing loudly once more if Denilson shows up.
Clearly, the Brazilian midfielder didn’t think it would come to this. When leaving The Emirates, Denilson complained about the lack of trophies he acquired there and clearly thought he was in for a better chance of success in Brazil. It would be an embarrassing return to a place where he failed to produce over a four year span.
However, despite having started Francis Coquelin in the North London derby, Arsenal’s midfield ‘crisis’ may not be as bad as The Daily Mail makes out. Even with Jack Wilshere out for the time being, there are at least 5 players who can play in a central role. Admittedly, Aaron Ramsey has been below par of late leaving the onus on Mikel Arteta. But how would Denilson returning change the quality of the midfield? It wouldn’t.
Will you be breathing a sigh of relief or a sigh of despair if Denilson does in fact return to The Emirates stadium?
