Arsenal began life under Unai Emery with a miserable home defeat to defending champions Manchester City.
The Gunners were simply second best across the field against Pep Guardiola’s charges, and it is clear for people to see that new manager Emery has a lot of work to do.
With the transfer market now closed and a few new players signed, it can already be argued that more is needed if Arsenal are to improve, and we at the Transfer Tavern think one or two more new faces should be on the agenda come January.
One such player we think would be an excellent capture for the Gunners is German midfielder Julian Draxler, who has not quite lived up to the excitement which surrounded him since making a big money move to PSG a few seasons back.
However, the £27m-rated World Cup winner is still a superb talent, and with Mesut Ozil once again looking lacklustre, he could well be the ideal replacement for the German.
Draxler on his day is one of the finest midfielders in Europe, and the 24-year-old simply needs to find his form and finally live up to his talent.
If Arsenal are serious about competing and more importantly, improving, then signing someone in the mould of Draxler should be a priority.
