As we start to put up the decorations for the forthcoming New Year celebrations in the Football Transfer Tavern, an article from the Metro catches our eye as it claims Arsenal are set to return for French duo Yann M’Vila and Thierry Henry this January transfer window.
M’Vila has been linked with the Gunners for the past couple of seasons and the 22-year-old Rennes defensive midfielder is seen as the ideal replacement for Alex Song who departed the Emirates Stadium for Barcelona in the summer.
Mikel Arteta has adapted well to the holding role for the Gunners this season but many feel Arsene Wenger’s side lack that dominant, powerful enforcer who breaks up attacks consistently. M’Vila could be this man, although a reported deal in the summer fell down because of the player’s record of poor discipline following Euro 2012.
Rennes could part with their star man for as little as £8 million this January with Tottenham, QPR and CSKA Moscow all rumoured to be interested, although M’Vila is likely to turn down the Russians after he shirked Zenit Saint Petersburg in the summer because of minority racist chanting.
Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger remains keen on a third spell for club legend and New York Red Bulls striker Thierry Henry who could join on loan once more as he is currently available given it is the MLS off-season.
It was thought that Wenger wouldn’t bring Henry back again following a successful loan last term after stating to French press last week that he had no intention of a return but in a turn of events, Wenger claimed: “I have not lost interest in him. I have not ruled a move out completely.”
