The Guardian’s best double-act has rocked up at the Football Transfer Tavern; I’m of course referring to David Hytner and Andy Hunter. Anytime these guys are in, they bring the juiciest of transfer gossip and they didn’t disappoint today.
David and Andy believe that Arsenal are set to up their bid for Liverpool’s Luis Suarez (a few heckles from over by the snooker table are suggesting the bid will be £40,000,002).
It is no secret that Arsene Wenger has made Luis Suarez his priority and the Guardian journalists are hinting that the Arsenal manager, who has never paid over £15 million for a player, could be bidding closer to £50 million, this time around.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has always insisted that the club won’t sell Luis Suarez for less than what his international strike partner, Edinson Cavani went for and that was £55 million, after Paris Saint Germain activated his release fee clause.
If you throw in the £40 million clause, the difference in valuation and the possible interest from Real Madrid, I think it is safe to say the name ‘Luis Suarez’ will be cropping up a few more times in the Tavern this summer.
This hasn’t effect the Gooners in here though; I don’t know if that is because it’s ‘Happy Hour’ but the Arsenal fans have certainly raised the noise levels, seems they are pretty excited about the potential arrival of the Uruguayan international.
