With RVP on his way out and Podoloski and Giroud on there way in, you would think that maybe it’s time for Arsenal to start looking for someone more defensive minded.
Well according to the Metro Wenger has his sights on another striker from France. Yet again Arsene is collecting young talent from across the channel in order to groom them into a superstar that will probably end up leaving the club for one that wins a trophy once every five years. M’Baye Niang is only 17 and is currently on trial at Arsenal with a view to a permanent move.
Niang is relatively unheard of but burst onto the scene in Ligue 1 in the 2010/11 season grabbing 3 goals in 7 games for Caen. His second season was less impressive with only 2 goals in 23 games and one of them was from the ball hitting him on the arm. Considering he is 17 and has a full season in the French top flight under his belt, it is safe to say that the people that earn money from spotting potential think he has something. Wenger being one of them.
Due to contract disagreements in France, Niang could be available for £5 million and given the right nurturing and enough playing time he could be a big star in the future. But at such a young age it would be a big risk and his second season did give off signals that his original burst onto the scene might have been a one off. Either way the ball is in Wenger’s court on whether or not to risk a cheeky 5 mill on the lad.
Another story from the Metro has spoke of the interest from Chelsea and Arsenal in Fiorentina star Stevan Jovetic. Both clubs may have thought they could get Jovetic at a cut rate price but after his wonderful season in Serie A last year, in which he scored 14 goals and made 3 assists, the Viola know they can hold out for a higher price.
That price is said to be at least £20 million according to their director Daniele Prade who said, “There is an agreement with the player that if we get an offer above a certain figure, we will sit down and evaluate the offer, but we will only consider offers above £20 million.”
For Chelsea it won’t be tough to part with such money and with the hopeful millions expecting from RVP’s departure, perhaps even Arsenal could think about spending big.
At only 22 and already a cemented starter for both Fiorentina and Motenegro, Jovetic seems to have the world at his feet. It is even more impressive considering his missed the 2010/11 season through injury.
He would make a fine addition to both Chelsea or Arsenal but with Roman Abramovich already signing Eden Hazard, Marko Marin and now Oscar, Jovetic would struggle for a first team place. Especially as Juan Mata makes it 4 other players that play the same position as Jovetic.
For that reason Arsenal should seriously consider making this man a marquee signing. As long as they get a decent payment for Van Persie they can invest that money in a young, improving attacking midfielder that can help the progression of the club.
Besides in years to come if he feels like he should move on to forward his career, his value will have doubled making him perfect for the self-financing model that is Arsenal.
