The Football Transfer Tavern has been buzzing with the news that Arsene Wenger could be set to ofload two of his key players this summer yet now eyebrows have been raised as Talksport claim the Frenchman has denied any such move will take place.
It had been thought that Skipper Thomas Vermaelen and keeper Wojciech Szczesny were set for the exit after the club had finally lost patience with the pair. However their manager has moved to deny these rumours strongly refuting them.
Wenger himself claimed that “Szczesny? I rate him highly and have a big respect for what he’s done. And Vermaelen? He is a very important part of our squad. He has a fantastic attitude and motivation.”
The manager did not however dampen any speculation linking Ashley Williams to the club and should a central defender arrive in the summer of course this could cast further doubt on their current duo’s future.
Arsenal of course beat Swansea yesterday to pile the pressure on both of their London rivals in the battle for a top four place – something Wenger believes they can achieve. The Frenchman believes that the Europa League will begin to take its toll on both Spurs and Chelsea and is ready to swoop when it does.
