When I first heard about the Rumours of Frank Ribery joining Arsenal I laughed this off, But the more I think of it, the more it makes sense.
Wenger could be using this move to convince Samir Nasri to sign a new Contract at the Emirates. If the stories are true, talks with Ribery are at an advanced Stage, and a deal could be done sooner rather than later.
Wenger has always been a keen admirer of the French International but Bayern Munich’s asking price was always the stumbling block, last season he was valued at £70M, the player himself was not too keen to move since his arrival to Bayern in 2007, but it looks like the Club and the player himself might be looking for a fresh start somewhere else.
The fact is Fabregas is almost certain to leave in the next week or so, and if Wenger can capture the signing of Ribery it would be a major coup. There are three issues that make me question the authenticity of this transfer rumour. The player was out almost all of last season with a serious knee injury, and he has struggled to get back to his best, and it’s no secret that he is the highest paid player at Bayern, in access of £150,000 a week, is Wenger prepared to break his wage structure???
Ribery is now 28, so he still has a few more season left at the top level, but as we all know, Wenger insists on going with youth and potential, but it now looks he might have to forget about this for a season or two and concentrate on buying players for the present rather than the future.
Or be risked being left behind by the the top 4. I’ve said this before, and I will say it again, Arsenal are lacking confidence, and they seem to have lost the belief that they can win trophies again, but there are not enough players who have heart in this squad, players like Ribery can give them the belief and quality we need.
If wenger can tempt him to the Emirates it could soften the blow of Fabregas exit to Barcelona. With rumours of other big names such as Karim Benzima as wengers targets things might not turn out to be as bad as first thought.
