In news that will have Tottenham Hotspurs fans reaching for the bubbly a couple of days early, we at the Football Transfer Tavern have been told by David Kent of the Daily Mail that Gareth Bale is going nowhere.
Just this week we were discussing the potential interest in the 23-year-old by Real Madrid, with Bale reportedly top of Jose Mourinho’s transfer list. The tricky player is seen as the saviour to both Real’s season, Mourinho’s job and Florentino Perez’ re-election chances with a £56 million package being prepared ahead of a bid for the Welshman.
However, Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas has come out fighting and refuted the rumoured transfer. AVB claimed in no uncertain terms that Bale will not be wearing the white of Los Blancos come January and will keep the Lilywhite flag flying high for Spurs.
Bale was in superb form for Spurs today as they won 2-1 away against Sunderland and AVB raged: “I have no concerns at all about the possibility of Bale going in January.” He went on to claim that for the majority of clubs, Bale is too expensive. However, not for Real Madrid, and the player’s team mate Sandro even claims he is good enough to play for Brazil. With Bale’s escalating reputation showing no signs of abating it appears unlikely that Spurs can keep hold of him for the long-term.
