Barcelona are preparing to offer Arsenal Spanish starlet Thiago Alcantara plus a hefty transfer fee in a bid to land Cesc Fabregas from the Gunners over the summer. The Catalonian giants are desperate to land Fabregas and it’s rumoured that the fee could rise to over £50 million for the Arsenal captain.
Money alone will not tempt Wenger, and Barca are canny enough to realize this. Alcantara has been on Arsene Wenger’s radar for a while now, and the Frenchman could be tempted if the player were included in any future offers.
Although Alcantara recently signed a new contract with Barcelona, he has already stated his desire to play in England and Arsenal could be the perfect club for him. Obviously, he watched them defeat his current club on Wednesday night and doubtlessly will have been impressed by the calibre of players they have at the Emirates.
Italian born, with a Brazilian father, Alcantara has been a regular for the Spanish Under 19s and is considered one of the up and coming stars at Barcelona, by his manager Pep Guardiola. Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool have all had a curious sniff of the player but none of them had a Fabregas to swap!
The ‘New Xavi’, as Thiago has become known, has made 6 appearances for the Spanish giants this season. This story will probably run and run throughout the summer, as Fabregas ‘umms and aaahhs’ over his future in North London. Rest assured, there will be other big offers from Barca. It reminds me of when we were kids, and we used to swap footy stickers. I had a shiny Ade Akinbiyi….twice! Nobody wanted him….
