Barcelona chief reveals agreement is in place to snap up 23-year-old Everton man

23-year-old Everton player wanted by Barcelona? There were hearts in mouths in the Transfer Tavern when our landlord dropped this bombshell, with most Toffees worried that Romelu Lukaku had made his way onto the Catalans’ hit-list.

However, it’s Gerard Deulofeu that the La Liga side are chasing, having been impressed with his form while on loan at AC Milan in Italy.

The silky attacker is a graduate of Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy set-up but failed to make the grade at the club before moving to Everton, initially on loan, in 2013, before then heading to Sevilla the following season.

The Toffees re-signed him in 2015, but his form last term led them to ship him out on loan, and the one-cap Spain international has impressed in Serie A.

His form has earned him a La Roja recall for their upcoming games with Israel and France and has also attracted his former club, with club director Robert Fernandez having told Sport that the Blaugrana could move to bring him back, with a €12m (£10.4m) buy-back clause in place:

“We have the possibility and that is good, we have the possibility to do it and I am very happy with what is happening,

“He was at Everton and wasn’t playing. He made the transfer to Milan, is playing and has been called up for the national team.

“We will wait for events. It is good news to have the possibility. I think it’s €12m to recover him.”

Barcelona have a history of using such clauses to lure players back to the club, with Denis Suarez snapped up on similar terms last year.

Does Gerard Deulofeu deserve another chance at Everton?
