Recently all talk in the Football Transfer Tavern has been about Radamel Falcao, but as our landlord points out there is a 20-year-old superstar who has fallen off the gossip radar of late – wonderkid Neymar who’s future has once again hit the headlines.
The Brazilian has been advised by Santos coach Muricy Ramalho that Barcelona should be his final destination should he choose to leave Brazil – yet this should only take place after 2014 – when he can be the ideal partner for arguably the world’s best player – Leo Messi.
Ramalho told La Xarxa Radio “Barcelona are a lot like us because they are a team who like to play football and I think for Neymar the best team to play for is Barcelona.” He also stated that whilst Neymar is currently the fourth or fifth best player in the world he will be a rival to the cream of Barcelona’s crop after the World Cup – hence making it the ideal time to make his move.
Neymar has of course been linked with moves to not only the Premier League but also across Europe and it is well known that the player will come with a hefty price tag – that latest tag being bandied about is £40 million which even mega-rich Chelsea balked at, and the question is if Barcelona would be willing to pay such a transfer fee (which looks set to rise even further) in addition to wages, opening the door for clubs such as Manchester City and Real Madrid.
