The Mirror reports that Jermaine Beckford will join Newcastle United. But not until after Leeds have played Manchester United in the FA Cup on Sunday as the League One leaders attempt to cause a massive cup shock at Old Trafford.
Beckford has been widely tipped to make the step up to the Championship with a £2 million fee reported to have been agreed between the two clubs and the expectation was that Beckford would join the Championship leaders as soon as the transfer window opened though those hopes have been dashed with these revelations.
A source at Leeds declared
“There is no way Jermaine will want to miss the chance to play United at Old Trafford. He might not be a Leeds player for too much longer, but his move can wait until after this tie has taken place.”
Beckford has long been linked with a move to a higher league with clubs from both the Premiership and the Championship rumoured to have been interested in the free scoring striker but it seems Newcastle have pipped their rivals to the signing.
