Looking for a song to rally around before the Three Lions’ matches get underway?
Look no further than a production by My Voucher Codes and band The 1966 and their new song, “Gonna Win The Euros.” Already being hailed as the unofficial England Euro 2016 song, the song features a catchy sequence in ‘Goal, Goal, Goal! We’re Gonna Win The Euros!’
The tune was inspired by Vindaloo and Fat Les and as is tradition with any great football song, features chantable refrains and sing-along choruses.
The rendition, features a music video with a bunch of guitar-playing lads cladded in cut-out face masks of various England players, including manager Roy Hodgson. The video is filmed primarily in Brixton, including a cameo in front of the Brixton tube station that attracted a large share of interested onlookers.
The video was recorded by students from the School of Communication Arts in a 24 hour period on a budget of just £19.66, a tribute to the only time England came out on top in a major international tournament. The goal was to show you don’t need to break the bank to show your support for England. It’s a fan made by football fans, for football fans.
The song is available on iTunes and MyVoucherCodes.co.uk to download, as well as to be listened to on Spotify. It can also be purchased for 59p. All proceeds from the song will go to Nordoff Robbins, a music therapy charity.
It’s well documented England’s lack of success at recent international tournaments. Since 1996, they’ve failed to reach the semifinals in the Euros. Their lone major tournament title came in 1966, when England were the host and captured the World Cup. The song refers to this with ‘In all our hurt, we still have Three Lions on our shirt.’
England are entering the tournament with high expectations, led by the goal scoring prowess of Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy. You can follow along on the fun of England’s unofficial Euro 2016 song with the hashtag #WereGonnaWinTheEuros.Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
